Under a magnifying glass, you can see the tube holes, which sometimes contain dark-colored gums that are either black or dark brown. The diameter of these pores can reach up to 182 micrometers, with an average size of about 98 micrometers. They are quite sparse, occurring only 2 to 8 per square millimeter. The axial parenchyma is mostly arranged in concentric layers and appears as narrow lines (usually just one cell wide). This structure is rather dense but isn't easily noticeable without magnification. There are no visible wavy grain patterns, and the rays are predominantly single-stemmed, with double-stemmed ones being rare. The wood has a smooth, polished appearance, and it lacks any distinctive smell or flavor. Its grain structure is extremely fine, and the texture tends to be slightly interlocked. When dried, this wood exhibits significant shrinkage, and it’s classified as heavy to very heavy. Its air-dry density ranges between 0.78 and 1.09 g/cm³. Despite its density, the wood is still valued for its durability and aesthetic qualities, making it a popular choice for various woodworking projects. However, due to its limited availability and slow growth rate, it can be somewhat challenging to source.
