Six rules for the detection of the pros and cons of ceramic tiles

1. Apply a few drops of tea or water on the back of the tile. After a few minutes, check how much the liquid is absorbed. If the water remains as droplets and doesn't get absorbed quickly, it indicates low water absorption, which is a sign of high-quality porcelain.

2. Tap the tile gently with your fingers or a small object. A clear, crisp sound suggests that the tile is dense and well-fired, which means higher quality, better hardness, and greater durability.

3. Use a sharp object to lightly scratch the surface of the tile. If there are visible scratches, it may indicate that the glaze is weak and not resistant to wear. This can lead to difficulty in cleaning the tile over time.

4. Observe the color and pattern of the tile. If the colors are vibrant, natural, and consistent, it shows a high degree of vitrification. On the other hand, if the colors appear dull or inconsistent, it may mean the tile is of lower quality.

5. When buying tiles, inspect the surface closely from about one meter away. Look for any pinholes or imperfections. If you spot them, it could mean that the glaze wasn’t fully fused during production, making the tile more prone to dirt accumulation and staining.

6. Check the edges of the tile with your naked eye. If the sides are not straight or show signs of warping, this could affect the tile’s stability and performance over time, especially when installed on floors or walls.

This method of checking tiles helps ensure you’re selecting high-quality products that will last longer and maintain their appearance. Always take your time during the inspection process, and don’t hesitate to ask the seller for more information if needed.
