Wearing headphones can severely damage hearing

In today's world, headphones are everywhere. It's common to see people wearing high-volume earphones while answering calls or listening to music on their phones and MP3 players. However, recent studies reveal a growing concern: one in four individuals between the ages of 18 and 44 who regularly listen to loud music suffer from some form of hearing impairment. According to a recent media report, more Americans are experiencing hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to loud sounds through mobile devices and portable music players. A survey conducted by the New York City Department of Health found that 25% of young adults aged 18 to 44 who frequently use headphones at high volumes have developed hearing issues. The risk is even higher for those who consistently listen at maximum volume—twice as likely to face hearing problems compared to those who use lower volumes or avoid headphones altogether. Interestingly, younger individuals are far more likely to use headphones than older adults. People aged 18 to 44 are over three times more likely to wear headphones daily than those over 45. In fact, about 36% of young people use headphones every day, with 16% listening at high volume for three to four hours each day. This habit puts them at significant risk of long-term hearing damage. Health officials warn that continuous exposure to loud sounds can cause permanent damage to the inner ear, leading to inflammation and irreversible hearing loss. To protect your hearing, experts recommend keeping the volume below 60% of the maximum and limiting headphone use to no more than an hour at a time. Choosing over-ear headphones or noise-canceling earplugs can also help reduce the need for excessive volume. Additionally, it’s best to avoid using headphones in noisy environments like public transport or crowded places. Hearing loss is a serious issue that often goes unnoticed until it becomes severe. Taking simple precautions now can make a big difference in preserving your hearing for years to come. China Labor Insurance Network
