Many electronic devices now need to be recharged, and sometimes they can even be confusing. However, if the infrared light wireless charging technology of the Israeli startup Wi-Charge can be successfully developed, you can use it to charge all the devices in the same room at the same time.
The Wi-Charge's charging system uses ceiling transmitters to convert energy into infrared light, which covers about 50 square meters below. Receivers attached to or built into electronic devices can capture infrared light and then convert it into energy. Even if the device manufacturer does not integrate the infrared light receiving device directly into a smartphone or wireless speaker or keyboard, the infrared light receiver can be easily configured through a compatible box or other adapter.

Infrared transmitters can be installed in light fixtures or smoke detectors in coffee shops, homes and even airport lounges, while charging all devices in the area. Infrared light is an invisible light. Unlike coil radiation induction or magnetic resonance wireless charging, infrared charging uses infrared light emitted by a laser diode in the transmitter, and then converts light energy into electrical energy through a photovoltaic cell in the receiver.

If you take the device out of the infrared range, the phone will stand upright (stop receiving the signal), or the beam will be blocked by hand and charging will stop. The benefit of a solution such as Wi-Charge, which is always in a rechargeable state, is the ability to charge electronic devices automatically and effortlessly. However, Wi-Charge needs to solve some of the details. First, the quality of the charge cannot be guaranteed. It depends on how many electronic devices are in the entire range and how many transmitters are in the entire range. Because the power level of the transmitter is specific, there is a practical limit to the infrared light that each transmitter can diverge.
Second, the Wi-Charge infrared transmitter needs to be as efficient as a typical charger.
Third, the Wi-Charge's charging range needs further improvement. The charging range of the living environment only needs 4.5 meters to 6 meters, while the mobile product needs to reach the range of nearly 10 meters.
The Wi-Charge team said that although infrared light charging is very powerful, it also needs to ensure safety. This device does not generate electromagnetic radiation, so it is equally safe even for people who have a pacemaker. When your body or other object blocks the beam, charging is blocked.
Wi-Charge still has a long way to go before it can be used on a large scale. The company said that its first smart home product will be available in mid-2016, and this smart home transmitter can be plugged into the wall. His price is between 50 and 100 dollars. Mobile infrared transmitters may not be available until the first half of 2017. By 2018, infrared light receivers that can be integrated into electronic devices will appear.
Although people always keep the state of charge they dream of, Wi-Charge is not suitable for all devices. For large devices such as electric cars, inductive charging and magnetic charging may be more efficient.
