Proper maintenance and handling of NSK bearings are crucial for ensuring their long service life. While installation and lubrication play a major role, the correct removal process is equally important, especially when replacing or inspecting bearings. Understanding how to properly remove an NSK bearing can prevent damage and extend its lifespan.

Before installing an NSK bearing, it's essential to open the package only when ready for use. The bearing should be immersed in a suitable cleaning liquid such as gasoline, and gently rotated by hand while holding the inner or outer ring. This helps to remove any protective oil that may have been applied during storage. After cleaning, place the bearing on a clean cloth or paper to dry, making sure not to touch the rolling elements or raceways with bare hands.

For sealed NSK bearings, it's important not to remove the seal unless absolutely necessary, as it protects the internal components from contamination and moisture.

If you need to remove an old NSK bearing, first inspect the shaft and housing for any irregularities such as burrs, rust, or foreign particles. These can be carefully removed using a soft brush or fine sandpaper. For large quantities of bearings, a more thorough cleaning method is recommended:

  • Heat oil to 90–100°C and immerse the bearings to melt the old grease or oil.
  • Use a clean, smooth tool to remove the softened oil without damaging the bearing.
  • Rinse the bearings with hot oil for a few minutes to ensure all old lubricant is removed.
  • Finally, rinse with gasoline to clean any remaining residue and allow the bearings to air dry completely before reuse.

This method was summarized by a senior expert in bearing maintenance. Following these steps will help ensure that your NSK bearings remain in good condition and perform efficiently over time.
