Global LCD monitor shipped or reduced 2.8% in 2013

Market research firm WitsView pointed out that in 2013 global LCD monitor LCD Monitor (including AIO, AllinOne products) shipments may be close to 165 million units, an annual reduction rate of about 2.8%, to maintain the trend of recession. Among them, the shipments of LCD monitors are estimated at 151 million units, and the annual reduction rate is estimated to be 3.7%; the shipment of AIO models is estimated to be about 14 million units, and the annual growth rate is estimated to be 8.1%.

In terms of size, according to WitsView analysis, the global LCD monitor market in 2013 will change due to the addition of new-size products. Among them, the new size is 19.5 inches, which is the most popular among brands. The main reason is that 19.5 inches is between 18.5 inches and 20 inches, while in 2012, 18.5 inches, 19 inches, and 20 inches are three monitors that take up the whole monitor. The proportion of total shipments of instrument products reached 44%. Therefore, the replacement effect of the potential market of 19.5吋 models should not be underestimated.

For panel makers, as panel makers strategically shift production capacity to better-paying products, such as LCD TV panels and tablet PC panels, it is expected that LCD monitor panel output will continue to decrease. The 19.5吋 production at the 6th generation panel plant can achieve the same economical cutting advantages as the 18.5吋 panel, maintaining 24 sheets (cut), and contribute to the further optimization of the glass utilization rate.

Although only CMO (3481) began mass production of 19.5” monitor panels in 2012, LG Display and AUO (2409) will also invest in 19.5” monitor panel production in 2013, which will facilitate 19.5” surveillance. The market share of panel panels rose to more than 7% in 2013.

In view of the conservative outlook for the LCD monitor market in 2013, WitsView stated that from the perspective of market demand, there are three main influencing factors: First, the global economic performance is still full of uncertainties, and consumers still have to tighten their belts; LCD monitors are actually PC peripheral products. Although the market is looking forward to the success of Microsoft Windows 8, it is estimated that the PC market will continue to be crowded out by tablet PCs and smart phones. Third, products are going to be thin and stylish. Ultrabook/Ultra-like Notebooks will set off prices and threaten the traditional (table-top + monitor) market.
