The slow and controlled release fertilizers currently being demonstrated and promoted have not taken off their coats of "noble fertilizers". Due to imperfect technological processes and high production costs, they are still difficult to spread on field crops. How to make slow-release fertilizers become “mass fertilizers” is an important issue facing manufacturers, research institutes, and related departments. Experts at the meeting pointed out that factors such as low utilization of chemical fertilizers, pressure on resources and the environment, and reduction in agricultural labor input have made controlling and releasing fertilizers an important direction for China's fertilizer innovation. In 2009, the total consumption of controlled-release fertilizers in the world exceeded 2 million tons. China's consumption exceeded 600,000 tons, and its production capacity was approximately 2.5 million tons, close to 1/3 of the world's total. However, this is negligible compared to the annual total of 53 million tons of fertilizer consumed in China.

At present, the domestic slow-release fertilizer technology is not yet perfect, and there is still a big gap with foreign countries, and the production cost is much higher than traditional compound fertilizer. Therefore, in China, slow-release fertilizers are currently used only in horticultural crops and economic crops with high economic value, and they only stay in experimental demonstration stages in field crops.

According to Cui Yong, a senior agronomist at the Soil Fertilizer Division of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the gradual maturity of controlled-release fertilizer industrialization has provided guarantees for the promotion and application of field crops, but it must solve complex product processes, chaotic market management, and scientific application. Technological research lags behind other problems. To strengthen technological innovation and industrialization, strengthen research and display of supporting technologies, strengthen technical training and publicity and guidance, and strengthen regulations, standards, and market supervision, and promote the further application of controlled-release fertilizers to Daejeon.

Kim Jung-yun, director of the Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Society of China, believes that the development and scientific application of slow- and controlled-release fertilizers requires a solid scientific research basis. Therefore, it is imperative that we must develop solidly and truly meet the requirements of “simplification, high efficiency, environmental protection and Daejeon-oriented”. Slow and controlled release fertilizers. He stressed that the slow and controlled release fertilizers must be adapted to local conditions, used from time to time, and applied scientifically. In the study, it is necessary to clarify the highly efficient use of soil and environmental conditions, and in the promotion, the characteristics of the controlled release fertilizers and the efficient application conditions should be taught to farmers. To achieve "simplified, efficient and environmentally friendly" goals.

Experts at the conference emphasized that China's slow-release fertilizers have a long way to go. They need scientific research, production, publicity and promotion to make joint efforts in order to truly establish a technical system for slow-controlling fertilizer production with Chinese characteristics.
