Barclaycard is currently testing the smart glove in the UK and is expected to start selling to consumers in 2015. Non-contact technology has become increasingly popular in recent years. At present, there are 45 million non-contact cards in the UK, and 300,000 places can be paid using non-contact payment methods. Barclaycard claims that currently available non-contact card readers are compatible with gloves without modification.
A micro-contactless chip is implanted in the glove and can be connected to a credit or debit card for purchase of goods under 20 pounds (about 195 yuan) without entering a PIN code. Gloves also have a touch screen function, and shoppers can use their phones with gloves.
In addition, Barclaycard is considering the construction of smart gloves for men and women in different styles.
