Wireless communication technology that does not require electricity

Many people think that their days are the same as copying and pasting, but the technology is changing and developing every day. Now researchers at the University of Washington have developed a battery-free wireless communication device that only needs to send information through existing TV and Wi-Fi signals - the magic of this is that the sending device of this network does not even need power!

This new communication technology, called "ambient backscatter," essentially creates a new network out of nothing, and the device can run anywhere. The principle is to use the existing cellular network signal in space to send information without the need of battery. By reflecting the already existing signals to the exchange information, the two devices can communicate with each other. “We can turn the wireless signals that exist in the environment into energy and communication media,” said Shyam Gollakota, the principal investigator. "This technology promises to be used in a range of places such as wearable devices, smart homes and self-sustaining sensor networks."

Researchers have created multiple battery-free small devices that use antennas to detect and reflect television signals and then receive them by other similar devices.

This technology allows network devices or sensors to communicate without the help of power or other human resources, and the Internet of Things is gradually becoming a reality. Tests have shown that the receiving device can receive signals at a data rate of 1 KB at a distance of 1.5 feet indoors for up to 2.5 feet, which is enough to send sensing, text, and contact information.

All this sounds very convenient. For example, these sensors that don't need battery can be installed on the key chain and communicate with the mobile phone. If your key falls out of the pocket or falls behind the sofa, the sensor will send you an SMS after you leave. According to PhysOrg, “The device can be set up so that if your phone runs out of power, the phone can still send text messages by getting power from the TV signal in the environment.” We estimate that these messages should be pre-written because they are out of power. It should be difficult for mobile phones to write text messages.

The application of "ambient back reflection" is not only at home. The researchers said that the equipment can be installed in the building and warn the administrator when any damage to the structure occurs. This can also be applied to bridges, cars, and anything you can think of. They are very small and can be installed anywhere.

If you think back, you will think this is a very remarkable thing. Imagine that in the future, various devices can be truly connected wirelessly. These small sensors may be the first of a new class of self-running devices that will make our lives very simple in the future. Anyway, our machine will never leave us.

Acrylic Impact Modifier is a core-shell type of copolymer consisted of rubbery core (Butyl acrylate) and glass shell which is compatible with PVC, rubbery core transfers the external impact energy into heat and grafted shell provides perfect compatibility of Impact Modifier with PVC matrix, therefore it shows excellent impact-strength, weather-resistance and color durability under long-period exposure to outdoor conditions.
