On June 3, a reporter learned from the Municipal Bureau of Land Resources and Housing that the implementation plan for the Wafangdian Diamond Mine Assembly and Exploration Area has officially been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources. This exploration area is the 27th project in the second batch of China's Prospecting Breakthrough Strategic Action. It is also one of the self-contained exploration areas and marks the second national-level self-contained exploration zone in the province, following the Anshan Iron Ore Assembly Survey Area.
Currently, the survey work in the region has already begun. The approved exploration area is located in the central and western part of the Liaodong Peninsula, under the administration of Wafangdian City. The area is centered around the Wafangdian Kimberlite Rock Ore Field and extends to the Yongning Basin. Its boundaries stretch from the western island to the mouth of Zhaokou in the east, from the southern fort to Yongning in the north, covering a total area of 1,648 square kilometers.
The assembly survey in this area is scheduled to last five years. By 2017, it is planned to identify one large diamond production area suitable for development, discover two new large diamond mineral deposits, and uncover 18 small to medium-sized diamond deposits. The estimated primary diamond resources are 2.9 million carats, while the resource reserves of 334-type diamond sand mines are expected to reach 50,000 carats. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the country's diamond resource base and support future mining activities in the region.
