Vehicle airbags are now so common in the new car, the airbag 20 from the mid-1990s in most of the world as a standard car safety devices (some high-end cars in the early 1980s, there were already set airbag ). The design of the airbag is to work together with the safety belt, both of which provide "buffering" between the passenger and the vehicle, thereby greatly reducing the trauma.

Whether the airbag is inflated through a chemical reaction or using a pressure accumulator, the airbag can be inflated at an extremely fast rate within milliseconds after the impact.

In order to protect pedestrians, airbags are now also installed outside the vehicle. Airbags and the quick- release bonnet ( radar ) system ( RDBS ) significantly reduce the amount of passengers trapped by the car.

How do they work

The vehicle has a collision sensor. When the vehicle collides, the sensor can detect the impact and send the data to the electronic control unit ( ECU ). The data information includes impact speed, angle, and severity. Other sensors of the vehicle can also detect passengers (belt buckle sensors and seat weight sensors) and accurately position the passenger position (seat positioning sensor). The electronic control device will then calculate which airbag to deploy and to what extent (the degree to which the airbag can act depends on the weight and position of the occupant).

The result of the calculation will cause the required airbag to pop open, which means that some airbags will not work after the vehicle collides.

Many new cities have at least 6 and up to 10 (or more) airbags, and the number will increase in the future. This means that rescue workers will need to deal with more non-functioning systems during the rescue process.

Of course, these non-functioning systems will bring danger to the site, but the system plan will greatly reduce the risk.

Determine airbag components

It is important to remove all internal trims before making any cuts to the vehicle. This can help identify any airbag component. For A- pillars, B- pillars and C- pillars, it is important to identify the inflator. These are high pressure devices and cannot be cut.

Attention to the injured

When a vehicle crashes and one or more airbags pop up, consider the following:

1 , the airbag will generate heat, passengers may be burned

2. Due to the speed of the bouncing, passengers may be bruised

3. Noise generated by multiple airbags may cause temporary deafness to passengers

4. When it pops up, you will see "Fume". This is actually a fine powder in the airbag module. The fine powder is designed to keep the parts in good condition and reduce the friction during ejection.

! Remember - Do not damage the vehicle structure without revealing the interior plastic decoration.
