Tibet maps the world’s first barley genomic map

The Tibet Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural and Pastoral Sciences and the world-famous genomics research institute, Huada Technology, disclosed to the Xinhua News Agency on the 2nd that, shortly after the success of the world's first barley gene mapping, they took the lead in completing the mapping of the barley genomic map in the world. This scientific research achievement will provide a solid genetic basis for further revealing the origin, domestication, cultivation and breeding process of Tibetan barley.

After more than two years of research and development, researchers have now completed mapping the genomic map of the barley. Studies have shown that the size of the indica genome is estimated to be 4.5 Gbp (bp is a gene size unit, ie base pair), the assembled genome size is 3.89 Gbp, and a total of 39,197 protein-coding genes are included.

Chief researcher of the Tibet Autonomous Region’s Academy of Agricultural and Pastoral Sciences, Nyima Zhaxi, said that “it has been successfully mapped the genomic DNA and completed the analysis. This is the first time in the world. The development is of great significance, and with the help of it, it is expected to cultivate a variety of barley varieties that are better than the Qinglan new species 'Tibet 2000', thereby further increasing the yield of barley."
