Introduction of ARKEMA impact resistant PMMA

Arkema Altuglas Impact Modified Acrylic Resin Series

Similar to the concept of many modified plastic materials, impact-resistant PMMA is also in ordinary PMMA, mixed with a small amount of specially designed acrylic elastomer. The elastomer can absorb energy and prevent crack propagation. The elastomer is based on acrylic compounds and is optimized to match PMMA, so it can maintain the transparency and weather resistance of PMMA, while greatly improving the impact resistance. Typical parameters of Altuglas impact-resistant PMMA are: light transmittance higher than 90% and haze lower than 3%.

Altuglas DR, MI-7 and HFI series have 7-10 times the impact resistance of ordinary acrylic resins, and colleagues maintain the excellent optical properties and ultraviolet resistance of ordinary acrylic resins. When strength is of the utmost importance, Altuglas impact-modified resin can integrate (or balance) fluidity and crack resistance, and has much better weather resistance than other high-impact plastics.

Altuglas DR resin is a pellet material that can be used for both injection molding and extrusion. It has the same impact resistance as other impact-resistant plastics, as well as the excellent transparency and UV resistance of ordinary acrylic resins. It can be used for both injection molding and extrusion of plates and profiles, and can be processed on all standard processing equipment. Altuglas DR resin has the highest chemical resistance and impact strength of all impact-resistant resins.

Altuglas MI-7 resin is a perfect combination of excellent transparency, good moldability, heat resistance and actual impact resistance. Altuglas MI-7 is an ideal choice when the designed product has the characteristics and appearance of ordinary acrylic and wants to increase its strength.

Altuglas HFI-10 and HFI-7 series have excellent fluidity and mold release, can shorten the processing cycle, and HFI series also provides grades that are resistant to gamma sterilization. Designed specifically for areas where injection molding is difficult. Compared with other high-impact and medium-impact resins, Altuglas HFI-10 and HFI-7 resins are 25% -30% higher in fluidity and 2-3 times stronger in mold releasability.

Altuglas SG-7 and SG-10 resins are gamma-ray resistant grades. They are specially designed to minimize the discoloration associated with gamma sterilization and sterilization. When tested at an irradiation dose of up to 5 megarads, gamma-ray radiation has no adverse effect on the volumetric physical properties of two brands.

All Altuglas impact-modified resins meet US Pharmacopoeia standards (USP XXI and VI anti-toxicity requirements).

When choosing the right grade of Altuglas impact-modified resin, it should be determined according to the size, processing technology and performance requirements of the parts. When there are extremely high requirements for strength and chemical resistance, Altuglas DR should be used. The Altuglas HFI system is used on injection molded parts that require strength and melt flow. If you need excellent UV resistance, it is recommended to use DR and MI-7 grade resins. When heat resistance and strength are required, MI-7 can be considered.

Processing guide:

Drying: drying at 82 ° C for 4 hours.

Injection equipment:

For processing Altuglas impact-resistant modified resin, a reciprocating screw injection molding machine should be used and equipped with a general-purpose screw designed for thermoplastic materials. The 50% length of the screw should be the filler area and the 25% length should be the compression area The length is the melting zone. The length-diameter ratio of the screw can be from 18: 1 to 24: 1, and the screw compression ratio should be 2: 1 to 3: 1. The floating seal ring is better than the ball seal, which can ensure the safety of injection molding. The nozzle should be designed with free flow and the shorter the better.

Mold:

The mold should have enough space to ensure good circulation cooling of the mold circulator. The water temperature can be adjusted from 38 ° C to 88 ° C to best match the surface finish and production cycle of the parts.

Altuglas impact resin extrusion:

Altuglas DR and Altuglas MI-7 impact modified resins are excellent extrusion materials. Altuglas DR resin has the highest impact resistance grade, and its refractive index is equivalent to the Altuglas V series of general-purpose resins. Therefore, in certain applications, the DR resin can be mixed with the V series to optimize the performance-price ratio of the product.
