China has been manufacturing and utilizing plastic pipes for almost four decades, but the most significant progress has occurred in the past ten years. According to statistical data, the annual output of domestic plastic pipes and fittings has surged from 200,000 tons to 600,000 tons over the last decade, reflecting an average annual growth rate of approximately 20%. Plastic pipes are widely used across eight major sectors: indoor water supply systems, building water supply lines, drainage systems, underground drainage pipelines, gas pipelines, electrical conduits, agricultural irrigation systems, and industrial piping. Among these, construction and drainage pipes have seen the fastest growth, while secondary and agricultural applications are also showing strong development. However, the development of buried drainage pipes and gas pipelines in China differs significantly from that of Other countries.
Despite this growth, the production of plastic pipe fittings, such as valves, lags behind the development of the pipes themselves. According to expert analysis, the ideal ratio of pipes to fittings in construction should be around 8:1. However, according to data from 1998, the production capacity ratio of plastic pipes to fittings in China was about 20:1. Although there has been a slight increase in the production of fittings in recent years, the imbalance remains significant. Most manufacturers of plastic pipe fittings are small-scale enterprises, with very few large or medium-sized companies involved in this sector.
This disparity highlights the need for more investment and technological advancement in the fitting industry to match the rapid growth of plastic pipe production. As the demand for plastic piping continues to rise, especially in infrastructure and urban development, improving the quality and availability of fittings will become increasingly important. The future of the industry depends not only on expanding pipe production but also on strengthening the supporting components that ensure safe and efficient installation and use.
