In the current landscape of China's hardware industry, there remains a significant gap between expectations and reality. Looking back at the second-quarter performance in 2013, it becomes clear that the standard parts sector has not met the anticipated growth targets. Despite some improvements in production, the overall export figures have fallen short, revealing a challenging environment for the industry.
According to official economic reports, the total output value of standard parts reached approximately 73.2 billion yuan during this period—a modest year-on-year increase of just 0.5%. While this might seem positive compared to previous years, it still reflects a very slow growth rate. Moreover, the data on exports paints a more concerning picture. The export volume of screw products, a key component in the standard parts industry, dropped significantly, reaching $5.46 billion—an alarming decline of -9.1% compared to the same period last year.
On the import side, the situation is equally troubling. The import value of screw products rose to $3.25 billion, but even this figure showed negative growth, with a decrease of over 10%. This double blow of declining exports and sluggish imports highlights the broader struggles within the industry.
Despite a slight rise in domestic production, the export volume of screw products fell by -4% year-on-year. These numbers collectively indicate that the entire standard parts industry experienced a downturn during the quarter. What stands out is that the sector has yet to fully harness its internal potential to drive substantial growth. Instead, it continues to rely heavily on external factors, which are proving unreliable in the current economic climate.
This trend underscores the urgent need for innovation, efficiency improvements, and stronger policy support to help the industry regain momentum and become more self-reliant in the long term.
