Basic escape method for fire in the building

In the event of a fire, it's important to stay calm and avoid panic. If you find that the main exit is blocked by flames, don't try to force your way through. Instead, return to your room and close the door behind you. Head to the bathroom, as it can be one of the safest places to wait for help. There are two key reasons for this: first, bathrooms are typically near water sources, which can be used to douse small fires or keep yourself cool; second, they often contain multiple pipes and structures that may provide some resistance against building collapse in severe fires. Once inside the bathroom, you can either stay there until help arrives or, if possible, use the window to signal for assistance. It’s crucial to communicate your location clearly to firefighters so they can reach you faster. While waiting, try to stay low to avoid inhaling smoke, which is often more dangerous than the fire itself. If the fire becomes too intense and you're considering leaving the bathroom, always check the door handle before opening it. If it feels hot, do not open the door—this could mean there's a fire on the other side, and opening it might cause a sudden rush of oxygen that leads to a flashover. However, if the handle is cool, you can proceed with caution. Use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth, and walk bent over to minimize smoke inhalation. This will increase your chances of meeting rescue teams safely. ( Zhang Lidong )
