Five ways to distinguish between failed pesticides

Testing methods for pesticide quality:

Dilution Method: Take 100 grams of emulsion pesticide and mix it with 300 grams of water in a glass bottle. Shake the bottle vigorously, then let it sit for 30 minutes. If the mixture is not uniform, shows emulsified droplets on the surface, or has sediment at the bottom, it indicates that the pesticide has degraded. The more emulsification you see, the worse the quality of the product.

Floating Method: Take 1 gram of wettable powder pesticide and spread it evenly into 200 ml of clear water. If the powder is wetted within one minute and sinks to the bottom, it means the pesticide is still effective. If it floats on the surface or doesn’t dissolve properly, it may have lost its potency.

Oscillation Method: If the oil and water components of an emulsion pesticide separate, shake the bottle forcefully. Let it stand for one hour. If the separation layer reappears, it suggests the pesticide has failed and is no longer usable.

Hot-Dissolving Method: Place the emulsion pesticide containing precipitate into warm water at 50°C. After one hour, if the precipitate dissolves slowly, the pesticide is still good. However, if the precipitate remains undissolved or becomes harder to dissolve, it indicates that the pesticide has deteriorated.

Suspension Method: Take 50 grams of wettable powder pesticide and place it into a glass container. Add water and stir thoroughly. After standing for 10 minutes, if the powder does not dissolve well, forms large suspended particles, or settles quickly, it is likely a substandard or failed pesticide.

These simple tests can help determine the quality and effectiveness of pesticides before use. Always follow safety guidelines when handling chemicals.
