Development and Reform Commission Wang Zhongying: The cost of wind power will be equal to that of coal power in 2030

On October 19, the "China Wind Power Development Roadmap 2050" (hereinafter referred to as the "Road Map") was released. Wang Zhongying, director of the Renewable Energy Development Center of the Energy Development Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said in his introduction of the road map that the future goal of wind power generation is 200 million kilowatts in 2020 and 1 billion kilowatts in 2050.

"According to the current relevant experts' forecast, wind power will account for 17% of total power generation by 2050," said Wang Zhongying. In order to achieve the above goals, it is estimated that in the period from 2011 to 2050, China’s static investment in wind power will total 12 trillion yuan.

The "high cost of electricity generation" of wind power has always been one of the reasons restricting wind power online. Wang Zhongying stated that it is expected that the cost of land-based wind power generation will be equal to that of coal-fired power in 2020. "Why 2020? Because at present, China's coal price does not reflect the true cost of the resource. If the price of coal is confirmed early, the price of wind power will be lower than the price of coal as soon as possible." Wang Zhongying said, "With it The government subsidies will reach a peak around 2015, and then subsidies will drop substantially as the cost of wind power falls."

In terms of the layout of wind power bases, land wind power bases will predominate until 2020. By the year 2030, both onshore and offshore will be equal. After 2030, the offshore sea will be the focus of wind power development.

Earlier, Shi Pengfei, deputy director of the Wind Energy Professional Committee of the China Renewable Energy Society, said that the difficult coordination of marine functional zoning is an important factor that restricts the development of offshore wind energy. "Now the planning for offshore wind power development has not yet been set, or even delayed." Shi Pengfei said.
